Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed 2023 updates teased

It's been less than two months since game studio Illfonic released Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, and while most players will have now completed the game's story campaign, the asymmetrical multiplayer title is still proving enjoyable... And as the birth of a new year approaches, Illfonic has teased some of the new updates to the game's content for 2023: the addition of Muncher from Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and a new map.

Muncher will be joining Ectoplast, Ghouly, Basher, Howler, and Poltergeist as a new class of ghost, largely-in part due to his popularity... With the game studio revealing that Muncher has been the most-requested ghost to be added to the game so far.

Illfonic has also revealed concept art for a new map (which can be viewed in the topic here), Facility, which Design Director Jordan Mathewson has detailed:
"The look that this play space is worn by time gives the players a unique feeling compared to our current job locations (maps). Construction workers are civilians and have begun a restoration of this facility that has uncovered why it was abandoned in the first place. Varied corridors combined with medium-sized rooms are built stacked up to provide a unique, more intimate gameplay experience with a creepier aesthetic. There will be some interesting ways to utilize these new areas in this map to each player's, Ghostbuster or Ghost, advantage. We will share more soon!"

The release dates for Muncher and Facility are yet to be announced, but given Illfonic's intention to release DLC on a quarterly basis, we may see the new material for the game go live early in the new year.

Gil Kenan to direct "Ghostbusters 4"

Movie news website Deadline has exclusively revealed that "Ghostbusters 4"/"Firehouse" is set to be directed by Ghostbusters: Afterlife co-writer Gil Kenan, and that Jason Reitman will be moving into the role of writer-producer.

Kenan had this to say on the news of his appointment:
"It’s an absolute honor to pick up the proton pack and step behind the camera for the next chapter of the Spengler family saga."
"I just wish I could go back to 1984 and tell the kid in the sixth row of the Mann Valley West that one day he was going to get to direct a Ghostbusters film."
Following the news, Jason Reitman took the opportunity to pay tribute to his collaborator, and to his late father, Ivan Reitman:
"A few years ago, my father handed me the keys to Ecto-1, and together we made Ghostbusters: Afterlife."
"Words will never express how grateful I am to have made a film with my father by my side. It’s now time to hand those keys to my creative partner and fellow Ghostbuster Gil Kenan, a brilliant director who will keep the Spengler spirit alive. I can only hope to provide him the same producorial care and support that my father showed me."
The article also hinted that Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon would be reprising their respective roles of Gary Grooberson and Callie Spengler.

Gil Kenan has previously directed A Boy Called Christmas, Scream (2016), Poltergeist (2015), Monster House and City of Ember (with Bill Murray).

A Historic Portland Firehouse has been turned into a Ghostbusters vacation rental

Built in 1912, Fire Station â„–17 served Portland's Alphabet District for 56-57 years before it was decommissioned and eventually became a private home. Following an extensive restoration, the station has been returned to mostly period-appropriate condition (while meeting contemporary building codes), and now in 2022, like many properties following the popular model of Airbnb... The former firehouse is available to book as a vacation rental... And for October it has been given a distinct Ghostbusting flare.

Vacation rental company Vacasa has joined forces with Sony Pictures to offer a unique three-night stay in Fire Station â„–17, which has been decorated with an assortment of Ghostbusters-themed paraphernalia: including a no-ghost logo sign hung outside, an Ecto-1 replica, Proton Packs, and even a Containment Unit in the basement.

The accommodation can take up to five guests, who will have access to two private bedrooms, working kitchen, rec/living room, and a garage featuring the Ecto-1 replica.

The listing is scheduled to go live on the 21st of October at 10am Pacific Time, and the themed rental will be available for the period of October 28th-31st at the rate of $19.84 per night (local taxes and fees will apply).
